Aleema Khan’s Egg-Stained Shawl Sells for Rs5M for Shaukat Khanum Hospital

Aleema Khan, sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder Imran Khan, has successfully converted a controversial incident into a substantial charitable contribution, raising Rs5 million for Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital through the sale of her egg-stained shawl.

The philanthropic gesture stems from an incident last month when two women threw an egg at Aleema during a media interaction outside Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi. Rather than discarding the affected garment, she opted to auction it for a noble cause.

According to Aleema Khan, an overseas PTI supporter purchased the shawl and transferred the funds directly to the cancer treatment facility. The garment will now be dispatched to the buyer, completing this unique charitable transaction.

The original incident unfolded while members of the All Government Employees Grand Alliance and All Pakistan Clerk Association from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were demonstrating outside the detention facility. Rawalpindi Police spokesperson Inspector Sajjadul Hassan confirmed that the perpetrators were PTI supporters who acted in frustration when their questions went unanswered during the media briefing.

Authorities promptly arrested both women and transferred them to the Adiala Jail police station following the altercation. Aleema responded to the attack with composure, stating she remained undeterred by such confrontations and believed she understood the motivations behind them.

The incident drew widespread condemnation across political lines. Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz senior leader Khawaja Saad Rafique described the egg-throwing as a shameful and condemnable act, reflecting a troubling fascist mindset within political discourse.

Rafique drew parallels to previous instances of political intolerance, including attacks on prominent figures like Nawaz Sharif and Khawaja Asif, emphasizing that such behavior damages democratic values and civil political engagement.

This charitable transformation demonstrates how adverse situations can be redirected toward positive community impact, with the substantial donation supporting cancer treatment for underprivileged patients across Pakistan.
