Muslim Nations Issue Strong Warning Against Israeli West Bank Annexation
Pakistan has joined forces with multiple Muslim-majority countries, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and the Arab League to condemn proposed Israeli legislation that would impose sovereignty over the occupied West Bank and illegal settlements.
Joint Statement Denounces Sovereignty Measures
The coalition issued a comprehensive joint statement condemning two draft laws approved by the Israeli Knesset in the strongest terms. The signatories—including Pakistan, Jordan, Indonesia, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Qatar, Kuwait, Malaysia, and others—characterized the measures as blatant violations of international law.
The statement specifically references UN Security Council Resolution 2334, which prohibits actions altering the demographic composition and status of Palestinian territories occupied since 1967. The coalition emphasized that these proposed sovereignty claims directly contradict established international legal frameworks.
Trump Warns of Consequences
In a significant development, President Donald Trump warned that Israel would forfeit crucial United States backing if it proceeds with West Bank annexation. “Israel would lose all of its support from the United States if that happened,” Trump stated, citing commitments made to Arab nations.
International Legal Framework
The joint declaration highlighted the International Court of Justice’s advisory opinion affirming the illegality of Israeli occupation and settlement construction. The ICJ reaffirmed Israel’s obligations under international humanitarian law to ensure occupied Palestinian territories, including Gaza, receive essential daily supplies and humanitarian relief.
The Muslim nations called upon the international community to fulfill its legal and moral responsibilities by compelling Israel to halt what they termed dangerous escalation and unlawful measures. They stressed the urgent need for implementing a viable two-state solution to resolve the longstanding conflict.
