Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has articulated a bold economic vision for Pakistan, emphasizing that sustainable development requires international partnership rather than continuous dependency on financial assistance.

Addressing the 9th Future Investment Initiative’s round table conference in Riyadh titled “Is Humanity Heading in the Right Direction,” the premier stressed that persistent borrowing undermines national economic strength. He advocated for equal cooperation among nations as the pathway to genuine progress.

Leveraging Natural Resources and Youth

The Prime Minister highlighted Pakistan’s abundant natural resources and youthful demographic advantage, with 60 percent of the population under 30. He outlined comprehensive reforms underway across multiple sectors, including complete digitalization of the Federal Board of Revenue, which has substantially reduced corruption.

PM Shehbaz praised Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s development vision while positioning Pakistan as an enthusiastic partner in regional economic transformation. He revealed plans to modernize agriculture through artificial intelligence and harness emerging technologies for national advancement.

Climate Challenges and Global Engagement

Acknowledging Pakistan’s vulnerability as one of the ten nations most impacted by climate change, the Prime Minister called for increased rehabilitation funding following devastating floods and cloudbursts that cost billions annually.

During a parallel meeting, World Economic Forum President Børge Brende formally invited PM Shehbaz to the January 2026 Davos summit. The premier welcomed strengthened collaboration, emphasizing Pakistan’s improved macroeconomic indicators over recent months and the government’s focus on exports, public-private partnerships, and IT sector growth.

PM Shehbaz underscored Pakistan’s strategic importance as a connecting bridge between South Asia, Central Asia, and the Middle East, positioning the nation as a vital hub for regional prosperity.
