ATTOCK: A Vigo vehicle carrying 10 family members was swept away by floodwaters in a village near Hassan Abdal, Attock on Wednesday morning, rescue officials said. Five members of the family had been rescued while bodies of three women have been recovered and the search for remaining two is still going on.
At least 279 people lost their lives and 676 were injured in monsoon-related incidents across Pakistan between June 26 and July 25, 2025, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) reported. Punjab was the worst affected, with 151 deaths and 535 injuries. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa recorded 64 fatalities and 80 injured. Sindh reported 25 deaths and 40 injuries during the same period.
The NDMA has urged all relevant departments to stay alert, keep rescue teams and machinery ready, and take emergency steps when needed.
Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs) and local officials have also been asked to take timely precautions to avoid further damage.
Last week, the body of Col (retd) Qazi Ishaq, who was swept away with his daughter in a flooded stream in DHA Phase 5, Islamabad, was recovered near the Soan River. The tragic incident occurred on Tuesday when the duo’s vehicle was caught in surging floodwaters. Despite a third day of intensive search efforts, the daughter remains missing. Earlier in the day, parts of the car — including the door and bonnet — were found beneath the Soan River bridge.
