Fayyaz Bukhari, the acclaimed javelin coach behind Olympic gold medalist Arshad Nadeem’s success, has formally requested the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) to include him in the coaching staff for the Islamic Solidarity Games 2025 in Riyadh, scheduled from November 7-21.
Plea to Sports Authorities
In a letter to PSB Director General Yasir Pirzada, Bukhari expressed disappointment over being excluded as head coach despite his proven track record. The veteran coach, who currently trains Asian bronze medalist Yasir Sultan, emphasized the critical importance of athletes competing alongside their personal coaches at major international competitions.
“My greatest aspiration is to represent Pakistan’s athletics team at the Islamic Games,” Bukhari stated, highlighting that both Nadeem and Sultan are strong medal contenders with proper support.
Track Record of Excellence
Bukhari’s coaching credentials are impressive. Under his guidance, Yasir Sultan captured silver at the 2024 Asian Throwing Championship and gold at the National Athletics Championship in Multan. He has consistently developed Pakistan’s elite javelin throwers through programs with both the PSB and Athletics Federation of Pakistan.
Financial Challenges
Despite being officially appointed to prepare Sultan for the Games, Bukhari revealed receiving only Rs30,000 in total allowance, forcing him to cover accommodation and meals from personal funds. He described his exclusion from the national contingent as “discouraging and unfair.”
The coach has appealed for a long-term contract, arguing it would provide stability and ensure continued progress for Pakistan’s world-class javelin program. With Olympic qualification standards within reach, Bukhari’s inclusion could prove crucial for Pakistan’s medal hopes in Riyadh.
