Pakistani security forces successfully thwarted simultaneous assaults by the Afghan Taliban and Fitna al‑Khawarij in Chaman’s Spin Boldak area (Balochistan) and along the Kurram border, neutralizing approximately 50 attackers, the military confirmed on Wednesday.
Coordinated Border Attacks Repelled
According to the Inter‑Services Public Relations (ISPR), Taliban gunmen launched attacks from four different points in Spin Boldak. Pakistani troops responded swiftly with heavy counterfire, eliminating 15 to 20 militants and inflicting injuries on additional assailants. The attackers reportedly used routes passing through populated villages, disregarding civilian safety.
Simultaneously, militants attempted to breach border posts in Kurram on the nights of October 14–15. The army said the offensives were decisively repelled, with the destruction of eight enemy positions, six tanks, and the killing of 25–30 militants.
Destruction of Pakistan–Afghan Friendship Gate
In a provocative act, the ISPR added, the attackers also demolished the Pakistani side of the Pakistan–Afghan Friendship Gate. This, it said, illustrates a blatant disregard for cross‑border trade, local tribal norms, and diplomatic protocols.
Denial of Pakistani Provocation
Responding to allegations that Pakistan provoked the attacks, the military dismissed such claims as baseless propaganda. The ISPR stated that “established facts” make it clear Pakistan did not initiate any aggression.
The armed forces reiterated their readiness to defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity, warning that any further aggression would be met with decisive force.
Ongoing Threat & Vigilance
Security sources noted rising concentrations of both Taliban and Fitna al‑Khawarij fighters in the Spin Boldak region. Pakistani forces, they said, remain on high alert to prevent any renewed attempt.
Context & Background
Clashes between Islamabad and Kabul escalated after October 11–12, when Kabul accused Pakistan of conducting airstrikes inside Afghanistan. Pakistan denied carrying out any such strikes, urging all parties including militant groups to refrain from using Afghan territory as a safe haven for operations targeting Pakistani interests.
